My cousin Cody and his wife Mary just gave birth to their second child, Vivienne Sky. Sweet Viv (as I'm calling her already, though I haven't met her yet) was born March 24, just two days before my birthday (which makes us approximately 27 years, 11 months and 28 days apart) and is therefore sure to be a fiery, passionate, oh-so-complex Aries just like her first-cousin-once-removed. Hopefully she won't manage to get my Aries neuroses too.
Here's Viv's brother, Tony, now 2 1/2:
And Viv's cousin, born to my cousin Jade and his wife Kate 7 months ago:
This new addition to the Rubick clan has me thinking all kinds of things -- musings on birth and life and what it's all about; awareness that my friends and family are aging, and therefore of our mortality; questions about what kind of mother I'd make, and if I will, in fact, become one.
It also makes me wonder about things like this . I want to buy it so bad. And since I don't have kids, my instinct is to buy it for my friends and family who have them. But even in a darkly funny family, is this shirt appropriate baby wear? Or is it proof that Cody, Mary, Jade and Kate should never let me babysit?
